Historic towns cycling The Netherlands
Holland offers cyclists a wealth of historic cities and charming towns, including Delft, Haarlem, Leiden, Gouda, Alkmaar, Middelburg, Maastricht and many-many more. These towns, many founded as Roman outposts or later developed by wealthy merchants during the “Golden Age,” are steeped in history and culture. While the western region boasts the major cities of Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, and Utrecht, many smaller, lesser-known towns are also worth exploring. Many Dutch towns reveal hidden medieval gems, offering a glimpse into the past from the saddle of your bike. If you prefer a slower pace, you can visit the historical centers of these cities on foot, either before or after your cycling adventure.
