Program
You can start every day during this period. Booking for next season is possible too (early booking is recommended).
This tour is designed with a standard number of days, but can be tailored to your preferences. See the description below for optional extensions, such as extra nights or scenic route additions.
-
Day 1 – From Haarlem to Aalsmeer
34km/21mi
We will meet you at our office close to the Haarlem railway station in the morning for the bike fitting and tour orientation. First of all you cycle to the Bennebroek flower fields to get a preview of the next three days. Then you continue eastwards into the ‘Green Heart’ of Holland, passing along one of the mid-Holland lakes. Your destination for today is Aalsmeer. The flower auction is closed in the weekend. Therefore, we might create the tour in reverse direction to make sure the auction is open during your tour.
-
Day 2 – The flower auction and the bulb fields
32km/20mi + 8km/5mi
Today you will have to wake up early to visit the world’s largest flower auction in Aalsmeer. A cycling loop before breakfast will get you to the flower auction complex and back. Around 20 million flowers are sold each day in the 518,000 m2 (5.57 million sq ft) auction complex. From Aalsmeer the route continues westwards and becomes increasingly colorful as you enter the area with all the bulb fields stretching into the far distance. Lodging for tonight is either in Lisse or Hillegom, right in the center of the flower region. -
Day 3 – Along the tulips fields to Leiden (optional extra day)
25km/16mi
Another day of flowers. And the route we have planned gives you the best possible views and a chance to inhale the wonderful fragrances! The relatively short route allows enough time for a relaxing ride beside the tulip fields and a visit to the world-famous Keukenhof Spring Gardens, a 32 hectare (nearly 80 acres) flower exhibition with hundreds of different species of tulip. Eventually the route ends up in Leiden and your lodgings in the historic town center.EXTRA DAY: Extend your cycling holiday with an extra night in the charming city of Leiden. With its picturesque canals, lively cafés, world-class museums, and rich history, Leiden is well worth a little more time. Spend a relaxed day exploring the city’s gems before continuing your cycling adventure.
-
Day 4 – Return to Haarlem
37km/23mi
Today you will cycle through the flower-growing region once more on your way to the coastal village of Noordwijk. You now turn northwards, and cycle along part of the North Sea cycle path. Then you continue inland through a chic residential area before reaching the center of Haarlem. -
Extra nights before or after your tour
We can arrange extra nights in the Netherlands before or after your bike tour. Our office is located right in the heart of Haarlem – a charming, historic city that offers all the character of Amsterdam but with a more relaxed, local atmosphere. Luggage transfers
Option 1 – Daily transfer service
Your luggage is transferred by van. We pick up your luggage after 09.45 (9.45 AM) and it arrives at your next destination before 16.00 (4 PM). All guided tours and road bike tours include luggage transfers. For recreational tours luggage transfers are an option. With this option we provide you with a small pannier (recreational bike) or a small backpack (road bike) for storing your daily bits and pieces.
Option 2 – In panniers
You carry your luggage in panniers, which are attached to the rear rack of your bicycle. Your bike has two panniers, each carrying approximately 20 liters / 44 lbs. Luggage that you do not want to bring along on your bike tour can be safely left behind at the start of the tour.>> Road bike tours
Other than our recreational bikes, our lightweight road bikes are not equipped with racks and therefore cannot take panniers. For this reason luggage transfers are included in all road bike tours. For these tours we provide you with a cyclist’s backpack, to carry your daily bits and pieces. -
