The story behind Holland Bike Tours.
Holland Bike Tours was founded in 2001 by Rian Blok, who turned his passion for cycling into a business offering bike tours across the Netherlands. In 2017, his oldest son, Emiel Blok, took over the company and drove significant growth. He actively encouraged customers to leave reviews on TripAdvisor, which led to increased visibility and a surge in bookings. Positive feedback from satisfied customers worked as powerful word-of-mouth advertising, introducing more people to the company. The company already had some helping hands in the high season. Though in 2018 the first full time employee, Meike, was hired through friends and family, and the business continued to grow steadily. A new and bigger office was opened and family friend Gerrit-Jan, and later Edda joined the office team. Holland Bike Tours has remained a close-knit family business, with even Emiel’s oldest son(10) occasionally lending a hand. The success of the company is a wonderful example of passion, dedication, and teamwork.

Our extended team for dedicated group support and for when we need to be in three places at the same time.
During the cycling season we work together with a fixed team of experienced cycling guides, support van drivers and a mechanic. Some of which are part of our team since day one, more than 20 years ago.
Our office.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, we didn’t sit still. In 2022, we moved into our bigger office at Staten Bolwerk 44 in Haarlem, a location that is perfect for both our team and our guests.
The office is conveniently located next to Haarlem’s central train station, making it easily accessible with only 10 minutes by train from Amsterdam and with a direct bus from the Schiphol Airport. We have always found Haarlem to be a more pleasant place to welcome our guests and start tours, as the city offers a much calmer cycling environment compared to the bustling streets of Amsterdam.
The office is well-equipped with three dedicated workstations, two secure storage areas for all our equipment, and a space for our mechanic to work on bikes. It also includes a kitchenette, a toilet, and a welcoming area for guests. At the back of the building, there is a quiet little square where guests can practice their bikes before heading out on a tour. And of course there’s a cozy coffee corner, maybe the most important of them all.
The grand opening of our office was a fun and festive occasion with all our staff, extra hands, neighbors, friends, and family coming together to celebrate this exciting chapter for Holland Bike Tours.
